Review of I Played D&D on Monday

First of all, great title. This is the only reason why I chose to listen to it. I like the titles that don?t try to have some deep emotional or ?earth-shattering? message in it. The title was quirky just like the piece.

I think this subject matter is extremely interesting and could be explored more in depth for a hard or soft feature of about 10 minutes. This was most likely not the aim of this piece but it could be done.

It was great that you went to an actual game instead of just talking to people about it. It brings the listener right into the action. The only thing I will say, and its kind of big since it?s the last impression the listener has of your piece, is that the ending seemed kind of abrupt. It left me with a feeling that this was just a snapshot of a D&D game and nothing more. Again, I don?t want to try to ascribe more intent in your idea than you probably wanted so I?ll just leave it at that. If that?s all you were aiming for than you did a great job.

It would be nice to see this subject explored more in depth though. There is a lot of potential with this subject that has been left relatively untapped.

Review of Insomnia

Interesting story. Nothing that will win an award but technically very good and otherwise interesting. To take it to the next level it would have to be longer to see how much this truly affects his life and catch an actual interaction where he?s impaired and how he reacts to it.

Don?t get me wrong though, it?s good.

Great production. I like the mixing in of music. I think you sensed the need to mix it in because this was most likely done in prison and there was little chance to get actual ambience. The subject is articulate and has an interesting take on his situation.

The style was interesting in that there was no narration. I think this is a style that is under-used and you did a great job of it.

Very provocative story. The only thing I will say is that it seemed a little short and the ending was kind of abrupt.

Review of Five Days in July radio drama

This is an interesting and creative way to present this story. Instead of digging up old audio news and speech audio you recreated it along with dramatized interactions. It?s an interesting way to mix two radio genres: hard feature and radio dramas.

I?m a fan of old time radio dramas and I feel it?s a style that has been forgotten. I can?t be sure how accurate to history this recreation is but nevertheless it relates the turmoil and chaos of the time. It was well done: great mixing, good writing, and great sound effects (crowds, sirens, disc jockey, etc). It also sounds like a real news footage clip was cut in. Fantastic!

I would like to see more of this style of blending radio drama techniques with hard features. It also might be nice to hear more actual audio cuts from speeches and news reports cut in from time to time.

Overall, well done.
