Is this a promo for a longer program or the whole spot? Hard to tell. Nevertheless, it's an intriguing PSA type of piece that has a broad range of topics available in this series. It would be useful for starting a discussion in a Business Ethics course or as a PSA on a college radio station. I want to delve into the rest of the series after hearing this tantalizing morsel.

Review of A Cook's Notebook: Pears

The description of pears is at once sensuous and mouth-watering, or perhaps sensual. I can't decide - both really, since the remarks on their curves and beauty sounded like the description of a Rubens painting. Yet good enough to eat... This is the very kind of piece that you'll only hear on NPR. It draws you in and beckons you to imagine the scene in your own mind's eye. It is more a sound painting than an aural experience.
Wonderful.

Review of Sedaris Drawing Spot

Probably one of my favorite Sedaris bits. His imitation of Billy Holiday doing commercial jingles is a hoot. I think this would make people tune in just to see what all the fuss is about with this guy.

Review of Indiana

A nice light piece which could be used as an end of hour filler to finish up the NPR broadcast as part of a continuing series. It stimulates thought and interest for the trivia buff and historian without bogging down in minutae. It is very American Gothic midwest loving radio.

Review of Promo for "Ask the Librarian"

While a bit long for a promo piece, I kept listening to find out what happens and why the piece is playing. The example chosen to illustrate the necessity of a reference librarian in a digital age is very apt.

Review of The "Laggy" Awards

Tongue in cheek, self-deprecating, and so very true. A little inspiration for the small business person who feels all alone in a big, bad world.

Review of :60: Peepers

Growing up in Toledo, Ohio, the local public station [WGTE] used a piece like this to fill the 30 seconds between their overnight national feed - Night Music, as I recall - and the beginning of Morning Edition at 6:00 am. Theirs was bird song from the local marshes and lake. It was a gentle and almost subliminal wake up when the alarm went off rather than the "Drive Time Report" which many stations use. NOt sure if WGTE still does this, but I wish my local station did.
