Why Does Baltimore Have So Many Confederate Monuments?

From Stefanie Mavronis | 11:32

Baltimore City is home to four Civil War monuments. Three are Confederate. We look at the history of how they got there and explore how people interact with that history today through the annual Lee-Jackson Memorial Day that is celebrated over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend in Baltimore.

Voices of the Baltimore DOJ Report & The Intersections Of Race, Gender, Sexuality and Policing

From Stefanie Mavronis | 01:38:20

In the months leading up to the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division releasing its report on the Baltimore Police Department, I listened to testimony from women, transgender, lesbian, and gay people, former sex workers, and former addicts that informed the findings of that report. The testimonies described sexual and physical abuse at the hands of the Baltimore City Police and the report ultimately found rampant racial and gender bias in the police department's interactions with Baltimore's Black residents. Produced in collaboration with Power Inside, a Baltimore-based human rights and harm reduction organization that serves women and girls who are survivors of gender-based violence and oppression.

I reviewed and edited those testimonies and conducted an additional interview, which comprise this narrative radio documentary. No police officers are identified in this piece and the names of those who testified have been changed to protect them from any retaliation.
