A Day in the Life of a New Jersey Bounty Hunter

From Benedict Moran | 09:00

Pop culture has recently been inundated with Bounty Hunters -- from a recent Jennifer Aniston movie to Dog the Bounty Hunter, now in its 6th season. But bounty hunting is not just muscle and comedy.

Walter Fernandez and his partner Danny Dominguez are two of the busiest bounty hunters in New Jersey. On a recent day, they captured two people. The first was a small-time thief who had jumped bail; the second was mistaken for another wanted man, and who was only released after they had tackled him to the ground. These two stories show both the utility of hunters -- and how the US Justice system relies on them -- as well as the danger of using a private, profit-driven and largely unregulated system of law enforcement.
