Review of Bi Chic

Being a heterosexual girl, I have often heard rumors of this girl now coming out as bisexual or as a lesbian, and wondered if perhaps they were just doing it for attention. But then again, as the interviewees in this piece showed, they were unable to come up with concrete examples, as I also have no firsthand experience. If in fact, "posing" bisexual people do exist, I understand how infuriating that might be to someone who has struggling with revealing their true identity. However, I think that it would be more positive to look at it as society, albeit slowly, becoming more accepting and tolerant of all types of sexuality.

Review of "The Thing About Being A Teenage Mother...Is That I'm Young"

I have always found teen pregnancy to be a shocking as well as moving topic, and this piece confirmed that. I felt that the mother's stories were informative, and that the piece had an overall positive tone, as they seemed to be making the best of their situations, and they were both still in school. However, I know that there are some teen mothers who don't have such excellent support systems and have to drop out of school, and that teen pregnancy isn't really the best option for most people. I would have liked to have heard some talk of prevention, but overall it was positive.

Review of Military Recruitment After High School

I think that this piece thouroughly covered one side of the issue, but the piece kind of made it seems as if the military recruiters are preying on students who do not have any other options. I found the story of the student who left culinary school interesting, but I was confused as to why he would enlist if he did not want to go to war. This piece showed me a perspective that I have not seen, but it overall seemed to be pro military, and I think that differing opinions would have added to the piece.

Review of Think Piece: Days of Our Teenage Lives

I liked the music and the whole tone of the piece as if it were an old radio show. I also felt that the scenarios that were presented were highly realistic, and I can not wait to find out what the characters decided.

Review of Roberto: We Don't Live in Huts

The story of Roberto I found to be quite moving, leaving his family at a young age for uncertainty is a really big step to take. I liked that Roberto realized that everyone makes assumptions about places that they have never been to, but that one can always stand to learn some new things. He left me wondering however, if leaving everyone he knew was worth it.

Review of Cutting

I think the issue of self-mutilation is an important and dangerous
one, however I feel that this piece could have covered it better. Some
of the descriptions, "games", and the music, were downright
disturbing. The feel the piece gave me was that the speaker was
pro-cutting. Also therer were some parts about teen sex which could
have been cut out, because they were irrelevant. The flow of the piece
was choppy, and while the topic is important, I think this piece needs
a lot of work, especially an overall change in tone.

Review of Teen Marriage

Hellen Fleming’s piece on teen marriage was shocking to me. Even being in high school myself, I don’t know of anyone who is getting married, and she has four couples just within her own school. This piece offered me insight into an issue that I didn’t even know was an issue. Overall I thought that this piece was effective in getting the point across, it certainly flowed well, and was informal which let me know how the youth really felt as well as what they really sounded like, and I liked that you could hear the sounds of the school in the background. The piece did cover the issue from several different perspectives, but I would have liked to hear more from the engaged teens as well as maybe how their parents feel about the premature proposals. I feel that hearing from more of the engaged teens might have offered the answer I’m looking for the most, what’s the rush?
