An excellent summary of Atlantic salmon strife. I particularly love hearing the voice of the man from the hatchery. He's working in a job that receives criticism for altering salmon, yet he may be the only reason why Atlantic Salmon persist in any state.
Way to go Leslie! What an unusual community that I had never encountered. It's easier to connect and form a community in a city or other region of high density, but towns in Maine feel very segregated. This piece really made me think about how the age of communication is affecting different areas in different ways, making small towns feel even smaller than they have ever felt.
Ah what a fabulous rendition of your story! This reminds me of the first time my family began sharing the less child-appropriate stories with my cousins and me. I'm sorry about your aunt but also so pleased that your family bonded over a little herbal refreshment.
Poutine has never interested me, as I am not a fan of gravy or potatoes. That said, I now wish to go and meet anyone who has ever made Poutine and ask them for their story. I can absolutely relate to the food perfectionism.
