Review of PROBATION PROFITEERS (deleted)

$200 fine for running a red light paid to the court by a private company and $200 (or more) paid to the same private probation company to "supervise" you? That can't be right, legal, or true - but it is all three in the state of Georgia. Georgia in the United States of America. Impossible to believe - until you listen to the piece...

Really good piece. It covered the issue widely and even presented options that I hadn't heard anywhere else. Highly rec!

Review of Family First Debt Relief Interview with John Gliha (deleted)

I do understand that PRX exists to allow us to peer review work so that good work will rise to the surface. I also understand that the purpose of these reviews is to provide useful information to program directors. Finally, I do understand that pans and slams are to be avoided. I find this limitation troubling with respect to this piece because it is simply horrible. Is simply a long form info commercial of low quality. No information is transmitted. Any program director that would air this show as anything other than parody would be badly serving the listeners. I also believe that someone from PRX should contact the producer and try to understand their motivation for posting the show here.

Review of Rooftop Wind Power

Great bit on rooftop wind. Informative and densely packed for a short bit. I had to listen to it a few times on my computer to hit all the websites that it made me want to visit.

This piece blew my head off! I work in a school so I absolutely laughed like a loon! I liked it so much that I went back and re-read the reviewing guidelines and Reviewing Terms to make sure that I can say the two words that best sum up the piece and immediately came to mind.

Those two words are:
HOT DAMN!

Review of The Confederate States of America

Great commercial! It did everything that it was supposed to do - it brought me in and made we want to see the film. When is it coming out on DVD? Can I get it on Netflix?

This is not intended as sarcasm, so please don't read it as such. These are just the honest questions that came to mind.

I am starting to believe that a NPR approach to advertising may well be the way to go - nice long form pieces that don't look like commercials but are successful in getting past the defenses and into the head. Great work!

Loved this piece and the other pieces in this series. Listened to about ten of them and enjoyed them so much that I called the programmer for my local public radio station.

I enjoyed this piece a great deal. I would love to hear something like this daily before or after Marketplace and other such market related shows.

Ok it is offical - I love the series. I called the program manager for radio today and asked her to look into the show. I'm just a listener, but hey...what can it hurt?

Review of DRIVEN TOWARD DEBT

The world from the perspective of the poor and have nots. I love this show, will listen to others and if they are all of this caliber I will start bugging the local program director for AM! In the mean time I'm going to email the link from the website to everybody I know whom I think will feel this piece....

Good piece light and informative. Didn't know that the fat in the front was easier to get off than the fat on the hips! Yahoo!!!! The natural sounds playing in the background all through the piece are a bit distracting....

Somewhere between this piece, Africans and African Americans, and Angry Again is a show that I really want to hear.

Review of Primary Sources - Has This Global Thing Gone Too Far? (deleted)

Deals with an important issue that I hear people in the street addressing yet isn't really addressed in American Media. Would be a good jump off to a debate on the issue or a call in show around it....

Ok this one was great! I work in a high school and I can understand where he is coming from which doesn't mean that I completely agree with everything that he is saying. This is definitely an equal time piece - if you play it let somebody from the local School District hear it first and run their commentary right behind it so that they can't accuse you of kicking teachers. Great for stimulating debate and doesn't have that "everything is ok"; or "its bad but look on the bright side tone" that many Public Radio pieces have.

Good piece. Would love to hear on a national radio show during February. Hopefully it will make all folks with a fear of Africans in America think about there conditioning...

Dense and extremely informative piece of radio. There are some pieces you can listen to and do other things - this is not one of them. If you are going to listen clear the deck and give it your full attention. I picked up a great deal on the first listening and even more on the second.

Review of The Face of White Collar Crime

I really enjoyed this piece. It is entirely too short to adequately deal with the subject matter at hand. There must be more to this piece to properly complete it. As is it is great as a Morning Edition bit or something like that. I feel that if it were fleshed out it would outstanding on This American Life - a true blow away segment given our current ethic scandals in business and goverment. Maybe a pairing with an interview from someone who was in government who was a crook? Just an idea.
