Claudia Schmidt - ROADS a spoken word collection

These pieces were produced for Claudia Schmidt's first spoken-word recording, ROADS. Most of the pieces contain improvised solo musical accompaniment by Crispin Campbell - Cello, Betsy Doriss - Oboe, Joe DeFazio - Piano, or Nate Bynum - Bass. A maximum of two takes were allowed for each piece to capture the essential nuance of improvisation, and to encourage the musician to respond to the words as they were spoken. It makes for a fascinating and pleasant listening experience.

Claudia Schmidt is a writer, singer, musician, and performer. She is best known as a singer-songwriter gracing coffee houses and concert halls for the past thirty years. Her spoken word renditions have been hailed as the highlight of her performances.

These few pieces represent some of her talents and those of the artists that work with her. Six of the pieces are poems written by Schmidt, the rest were written by various acquaintences.
