Mohammed Omer reports from Cairo and surrounding areas
From Mary-Charlotte Domandi | 29:59
Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer reports from Cairo and surrounding area on the protests in Egypt and the political situation within Egypt.
Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer is winner of the Martha Gellhorn Prize; honored as "the voice of the voiceless" his reporting constitutes a "humane record of the injustice imposed on a community forgotten by much of the world." In this conversation with KSFR-FM producer Mary-Charlotte Domandi, he reports from Egypt about the protests and the protesters, who continue to call for the resignation of Mubarak and the instituting of democratic elections; the use of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media in the organizing of protests and the shutting down of those media by the Egyptian government; the riot police and their brutal abuse of journalists; the opening of the prisons amid the chaos, resulting in the escape of dangerous criminals; the panic surrounding food supplies; the response of other nations to Egypt; the history of previous protests in Egypt; and the role of the Egyptian army.
