Would you let a bot interpret your dreams? Should you? We speak with Joanna of Blue Lotus Queendom about the pleasures and pitfalls of using AI with dreams. Also what is Yoga Nidra and how does it support Dreamwork. Joanna gives many suggestions about how to use AI with our dreams but that list does NOT include asking the AI what your dream means. She urges us to trust our inner knowing instead. This leads to a conversation about the ethics of telling someone else what their dream means.

We switch to a discussion of yoga nidra. Joanna suggests that it can help us as dreamers in many ways including making us aware of different states of consciousness as well as possibly increasing dream recall

We take a call from Kristen from Virginia who shares a dream about black demons attacking Robin Williams few days before he killed himself. We then take a call from Wendy from Monterey who shares a dream suggesting that we can to learn to cooperate to influence the outcome of the future. Synchronistically, Wendy had met Robin Williams before the years of his fame and recognized that he was alienated from others even then.

BIO: Joanna Kowalewska, the founder of Blue Lotus Queendom, is originally from Poland. She is certified in Dreamwork and Yoga Nidra and regards dreams as sacred portals to wisdom. She inspires others to connect with their inner guidance through private sessions, dream circles, and workshops. She has recently authored a free ebook exploring potential influences of Artificial Intelligence on the sacred realm of dreamwork.

Guiding Spirits Home with Jeanne Van Bronkhorst

From Katherine Bell | Part of the The Dream Journal series | 53:14

Companioning the dying through lucid dreams. Our guest shares some of her experiences of psychopompic dreaming.

For_wp_small

Companioning the dying through lucid dreams. Our guest shares some of her experiences of psychopompic dreaming. Starting when she was 9 or 10 she would dream of being in a classroom where she learned how to change the dream. Several years later she describes her first experience of helping a dying person happened several years later when she found herself in a dream falling together with a woman who was terrified. She was able to slow their fall by dreaming up first n umbrella then a parachute letting the woman land softly in a place where friends were waiting to greet her.

She shares several such stories (including one in which she was awake but meditating) and says that in the liminal space between life and death, our dreaming muscles are essential when the physical world falls away. Jeanne describes some of the work of Allan Kellehear in his book Experiences Near Death: Beyond Medicine and Religion, saying that near death experiences vary across cultures, but the one thing in common is that the dying person is always being helped as they approach that threshold.

Rick shares a dream in which one of his beloved dogs is killed, and Max asks whether Jeanne feels prepared when she has these experiences of if she is just winging it. We muse over Tibetan Dream Yoga and the idea that we are more open to these liminal spaces when we are dreaming and marveling over the rich variety of metaphors for dying that people experience, and end by talking about how to enhance emotional connections with those who are dying.

Jeanne also appeared on the Dream Journal in August 2021. That conversation can be found here: https://ksqd.org/dreams-at-the-end-of-life-with-jeanne-van-bronkhorst/

BIO: Jeanne Van Bronkhorst, MA, MSW, worked with people in hospice care for ten years. Her interest in end-of-life care began in childhood, when she occasionally dreamed of helping people who were dying. Now she is on the board of the IASD, and writes books about end-of-life about end-of-life dreams and grief dreams.

For_wp_small

Is waking life really a kind of theater which we make up along the way? The transformative potential of dreamwork, today with certified dreamworker, Tina Tau. Tina shares a dream in which she struggles to swim upstream, then suddenly stands up and realizes the water is not so deep. We speak about how this highlights that our understanding of what's true in any moment, waking or sleeping, may be radically altered by our expectations.

She shares another dream in which she notices that a giant bird seems to be operated by wires like a puppet and asks, "Who is big enough to operate that puppet?" Tina describes how this dream opened up for her the realization that much of reality is staged like a play.

After the break, Gary from Oregon calls with a dream including three planetariums. We take a second call from Kristen from Virginia who shares a dream that is one of a series of dreams about her ex-partner. We finish with a few words about asking for dreams to help with the climate change crisis and a description of her recent book "Ask for Horses".

What is sandtray work and how does working with metaphor benefit us neurologically? We speak with Leah Hodari about applying sandtray work to dreamwork.

What is sandtray work and how does working with metaphor benefit us neurologically? We speak with Leah  Hodari about applying sandtray work to dreamwork. She describes how all aspects of the therapy encourage therapeutic bilateral integration, allowing trauma, which lives in the right hemisphere, to emerge and be processed by the more verbal left hemisphere.

We talk about metaphor in sandtray work and in waking life in that humans commonly experience that one object can hold many different meanings. Leah talks about the power of using sandtray to explore and modify dreams and lists several questions the dreamer can ask themselves to deepen their dreamwork.

In the second half, Leah talks about how she got started with this work. We take an email from Rachel who asks about talking in her sleep and a question from Max who shares his experience that both he and his son find that playing with and creating miniatures can be be relaxing and helps with focus.

Deep Lucid Dreaming with Clare Johnson, PhD

From Katherine Bell | Part of the The Dream Journal series | 53:25

Explore creativity, healing, sex, grief, and the nature of time and space. A conversation with Lucid Dreaming expert Dr. Clare Johnson.

For_wp_small

Guide your dreams with the power of thought and intention. Explore creativity, healing, sex, grief, and the nature of time and space. Today we talk to Lucid Dreaming expert Dr. Clare Johnson.

Clare describes an intense dream which spurred her to write her next book which is currently in the editing phase. She says that dreams, lucid or not, demonstrate that we are in partnership with our own subconscious. She tells of lucid dreams in which she questions the nature of dreams, energy, and even of matter. We then get into a conversation about nightmares: what they are for and some ideas about dealing with them in the dream itself or in the waking state.

After the break, we take a call from Holmes from New York who tells about a dream where he is with a pastor but can't hear what he says. The pastor has a spider on his head which looks right at Holmes and gets bigger and bigger. Clare suggests he go back into the dream if he wants to find out what the pastor said. He also tells us he has many sex dreams which Clare says is sometimes related to spiritual awakening. Homes finishes by telling us how a waking life meditation allowed him to let go of his fear of dream whales.

We take a second call from John from Santa Cruz about how he often drifts in and out of dreaming and wakefulness. Clare ends by talking about how raising our quality of awareness can improve the consciousness that we take with us when we die.

Go to Clare's webpage for a 50% discount on her popular 30-Day Power of Dreams class using the code word "dream".

BIO: Dr. Clare Johnson is a global lucidity teacher and a pioneer in the field. She was the first person in the world to earn a PhD in Lucid Dreaming as a creative tool. Past President of IASD, she founded Deep Lucid Dreaming Video Courses and has written seven dream books.

He describes primary consciousness as the body and the subconscious while secondary consciousness is everyday awareness. Primary consciousness is present all the time, but is deeply accessed through dreaming and psychedelics.

Steve recommends what he calls a psycholytic dose to help get out of a loop of unresolved emotions, but he cautions that a psychedelic session is just the beginning of a healing journey.

Burial by Joan Gelfand

You might imagine a box,
Airless, close
the sound of dirt clumps
Falling like rain.
You might imagine a mudslide
Rushing down steep mountain terrain
Your legs buckling.
You might imagine a building,
Shaken to its core, rubble tumbling
Knocking you senseless.
You might imagine water, too deep,
A collapsed bridge, a tunnel broken.

My burial was none of these.
An angel chanted
And I went under, alone and
Unafraid.
