November 9th is the 25th anniversary of the moment the wall separating East and West Berlin began to fall. Teajay recalls the world he grew up in as a youth in the GDR: devoid of both capitalism and color. In his neighborhood stood an enormous wall surrounding another world he was forbidden from seeing. Everything he knew about this mysterious land was through whispered rumors, a special market selling western products to foreign visitors and television broadcasts his family accessed with a secret antenna. When the wall suddenly opened, it seemed Teajay’s dreams had come true. But the country he knew was rapidly fading away.
