Darcy Bedortha has a heart as big as Crook County Oregon. She’s the Rural Program Coordinator at Heart of Oregon Corps AmeriCorps program in Prineville Oregon. The program engages economically disadvantaged young people ages 18-24 in environmental stewardship projects on public lands while helping them prepare for future careers. Crook County, for the past ten years or so, has experienced high unemployment, poor health outcomes, and a higher than average high school drop out rate than surrounding counties.
