DeLeon Springs History

From Christopher Howell | 05:01

DeLeon Springs was the site of a Civil War skirmish. It has a strange and troubled history.

The headspring at DeLeon Springs State Park in Volusia County Florida delivers 19 million gallons of crystal-clear water from deep inside an underground cavern every day. This 600 acre park is probably best known for it's rustic Old Spanish Sugar Mill Restaurant where diners can make their own pancakes at griddles built into the table tops.

It's a peaceful place today but down through history the area has seen it's share of both serenity and conflict. Independent producer Chris Howell visited the park and filed this report.
