Episode 017: Ambrose Chappel

From John Brice | Part of the The Mongoland Radio Show series | 02:54:05

A deep mix from Mongo featuring Techno, Tech House, Chill Out, Psy-Trance, Trance, Deep House, Electronica, and House music!

A Way Back Track in which Dr. Timothy Leary meets Brian Eno!

And a Guest DJ Set from Liverpool's Ambrose Chappel!

Themongolandradioshow_small In the mix, three tracks from my latest musical crush, Unique Repeat, plus tracks by Diego Aquino, Gregor Sultanow, Bonobo + Maya Jane Coles, Peter Pizzutelli, Max Cooper, Leevey, Blondie, Sunburnt Octopus, Sizzle Bird, Flooting Grooves + Daniel Symons, Alan Crown, and Timo Voorn.

For the Way Back Track, a new mashup which pairs Timothy Leary, presenting material from his 1964 book, The Psychedelic Experience (a psychedlic adaptation of The Tibetan Book of the Dead) in the style of a Tibetan Lama, together with a live recording of Brian Eno from 1997.  The Timothy Leary piece focuses on reintegration of consciousness and normal perception upon one's return from the Trip, and the Eno piece is from Music For White Cube.  So this mashup is called, Return of the White Cube.

And last but certainly not least, my Guest DJ this week is Ambrose Chappel (aka Daniel John Ballinger), hailing from Liverpool, England.  Ambrose Chappel delivers a fascinating and unusual mix that will leave you asking the musical question, "What the hell is this gnarly stuff?"  For the answer to that question whenever you may ask it, just check the playlist below.

Ebola's Exponential Rate of Contagion

From John Brice | Part of the Commentary by John C. Brice, J.D. series | 04:41

The World Health Organization this week announced a horrendous fact: the number of Ebola cases in West Africa is doubling every 20 days. If this trend continues, 5.5 billion people will be infected within one year.

Commentary_by_john_c_brice__jd_small When the World Health Organization announced that there would be 21,000 cases of Ebola in West Africa by September 30, and 1.4 Million cases by January of 2015, these numbers were based on the fact that the number of Ebola cases is doubling every 20 days.  This is an exponential progression, the significance of which is likely lost on most people.  This piece explores the nature of exponential progressions, and carries the math beyond January of 2015.
