At the end of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) Belarus was left in rubble due to the Nazi invasion and the subsequent Soviet battles to win back the territory. A baby was born to a villager there, whose father was a Soviet soldier just passing through and continued to pass without being part of this story. This baby grew up to be my colleague and I’ll capture a story told in a lighthearted manner that would frighten a parent in the West, about a child playing on a post WWII Soviet “playground”.
