ECONOMIC CLUNKERS

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 06:09

Economic recovery efforts pushed by President Obama and Congress are simply another attempt to throw good money after bad. More importantly, he shows how programs like Cash for Clunkers are doing the exact same thing as repeating the housing bubble, only expecting different results

Default-2_small Senator Joe Carraro discusses how the economic recovery efforts pushed by President Obama and Congress are simply another attempt to throw good money after bad. More importantly, he shows how programs like Cash for Clunkers are doing the exact same thing as repeating the housing bubble, only expecting different results. In the end, the government underwrites huge amounts of personal debt with its own, and consumers pile on large, new amounts of personal debt they can't afford. In the end the only ones who benefit are financial companies and the product suppliers, but only in the short term until the bubble inevitably bursts.

LOBBYISTS PAY CONGRESS

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 06:46

Lobbyists have corrupted both major political parties to give us the current health care and financial systems we have, and why we have never had tort reform come up before Congress. Industry and special interest lobbyists contribute BILLIONS of dollars each year to both parties, and we need to stop them if we are ever going to have our voices heard.

GOVERNMENT NEPOTISM

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 09:16

NEPOTISM HAPPENS EVERYWHERE AT ALL LEVELS SO THAT EVENTUALLY EVERYONE BECOMES INVOLVED EITHER IN ITS PERPETUATION OR ITS COVER-UP. IT'S PREVALENT IN ALL OF GOVERNMENT AND CERTAINLY INFLUENCES WHETHER BILLS ARE PASSED OR KILLED, AND WHAT MONEY IS SPENT ON. IN SOME CASES IT LEADS TO ELECTED OFFICIALS HAVING THEIR FAMILIES INDIRECTLY BECOMING INVOLVED IN DECIDING HOW THEY ARE GOING TO VOTE, WHICH COMES IN CONFLICT WITH THE BEST INTERESTS OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS.

BUT AS WITH SO MANY THINGS IN GOVERNMENT, WHAT GOES ON IS SO ISOLATED FROM PUBLIC VIEW THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. AND, IF THEY CAN OPENLY GET AWAY WITH IT IN THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES WHY CAN'T THEY GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING ON THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL AS WELL. OH! AND LIKE I SAID IT'S ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE WITH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS PARTICIPATING. AND THAT'S WHY NOBODY COMPLAINS. OF COURSE, IN CONGRESS IT'S EVEN A BIGGER DEAL. OF COURSE, THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH IS EVEN WORSE. AND THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION MADE NEPOTISM AN INDUSTRY. OF COURSE, MOST OF THE REAL BENEFITS OF NEPOTISM DON'T OCCUR EVEN IN THE DIM LIGHT OF CONGRESS. BUT THOSE RELATIVES STILL HAVE TO SHOW RESULTS. AND IF YOU DON'T THINK THAT THOSE IN CONGRESS AREN'T EXPECTED TO COME THROUGH FOR THE SUPPORTERS OF THEIR FAMILIES, JUST LOOK AT THE SUSAN B. KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE FOUNDATION DEALING WITH CANCER, AND THEIR MOVE TO DUMP SENATOR JOE LIEBERMAN'S WIFE AS ITS "GLOBAL AMBASSADOR," SAYING HADASSAH LIEBERMAN'S HEALTH CARE LOBBYING WORK AND HER HUSBAND'S OPPOSITION TO THE SO-CALLED PUBLIC OPTION, MAKE HER UNFIT FOR THE JOB. SO IF YOU'RE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS UNDERSTANDING WHAT'S HAPPENING IN WASHINGTON JUST CHECK OUT THE MONEY THAT'S COMING IN TO THESE POLITICIANS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THAT'S WHY THEY VOTE LIKE THEY DO, AND THAT'S HOW THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. AND IF YOU DON'T DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW, THE WORST IS YET TO COME.

CONSUMER FRAUD

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 04:02

Big business is as much of a threat to our livelihoods as out of control government, when they can do what they want and steal from us, and get away with it. It is especially criminal given that it is a government-regulated monopoly, and yet the government rules still favor the phone company to run over and still and cheat from customers--the very people who elected the members of government who are supposed to regulate monopolies to ensure that they don't engage in this behavior. Tell all your friends and fans to check all their bills so they don't get ripped off.

THE ECONOMY STUPID

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 04:48

Joe Carraro discusses how the rich and powerful got richer and more powerful under Bush and now Obama as they have colluded to enrich the elites in government and big business. If the Obama Administration was serious about stimulating the economy, why aren't why financing a massive investment in green technology such as manufacturing solar panels on houses to lower bills and free up our money to pay our mortgages and other bills.

We need innovation and new ideas, not the same failed process of giving more and more money to mega corporations already fattened by their incestuous relationship with government through lobbyists and campaign contributions, and the revolving door of officials coming from these firms and then heading right back, often to lobby the same people they just served with.

REAGAN SMALL BUSINESS MEETING

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 04:28

Joe Carraro discusses his first meeting with Ronald Reagan, and how he was the only true small businessman in the then-governor's small business roundtable. Joe tells about how he wanted to be able to trust the government not to interfere in the market and keep from colluding with and favoring big business--which Reagan's successors in the White House all came to do after Reagan tried to stay true to his word that he would have a government people could trust. That commitment is what inspired Joe to run for state senate, where he served for 20 years; always working for the people.

AUTISM CAUSE

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 12:41

We need to move forward to find a cause for Autism without fear to question and innovate and just maybe get closer to understanding what we're dealing with and where it comes from. There are possible cause we need to immediately investigate.

Default-2_small We need to move forward to find a cause for Autism without fear to question and innovate and just maybe get closer to understanding what we're dealing with and where it comes from.  It was when the vaccine manufacturers stopped using mercury and added other preservatives like phenoxyethanol and formaldihyde that can affect immune systems, and started using human tissue to grow virus' for vaccines, that an increase in autism incidences occurred. It could be human DNA contained in the MMR--measles, mumps and rubella—vaccine, that's a cause.  It's been observed that spikes in autism rates occurred when human tissue was first used in the MMR II vaccine in 1983, and again in 1988 when a second MMR II shot was added for some children, and then yet again in 1995 when they began using a chicken pox vaccine grown in human fetal tissue.  There are possible cause we need to immediately investigate.

OIL PRICES AND TAX BREAKS

From Joseph Carraro | Part of the THE AVERAGE JOE series | 18:40

As a former state senator for 20 years, an executive committee member of the National Energy Council, an energy consultant, a stock broker and financial analyst, let me please help you interpret all the doublespeak and misinformation about oil prices and tax breaks, without the burden of having to defend either side.

To those of us average Joes and Janes, oil is a necessity. But why does it cost so much? And how come we have give tax breaks to enhance the profits of multinational corporations while we are going broke?

As a former state senator for 20 years, an executive committee member of the National Energy Council, an energy consultant, a stock broker and financial analyst, let me please help you interpret all the doublespeak and misinformation, without the burden of having to defend either side.
Now, to those of us average Joes and Janes, oil is a necessity.  But why does it cost so much?  Whether it's the owners of the oil, the industries that extract and refine it, the governments who tax it, or the investors who buy it, somehow they all combine to figure how much the end user can stand to pay for it. Interestingly in the top 10 producers are our two neighbors Canada and Mexico, which both sell us a lot of oil, and a major beneficiary of our financial and military largesse—Iraq.  Many years ago I passed legislation requesting that the White House arrange a deal with Iraq that eventually pays us back in oil for all the money we have spent liberating that country.  Now, that would bring the price of gas down.  Unfortunately, President Bush didn't like the idea.
The average cost to produce a barrel of oil, is about $30, with one third going to extraction and taxes and two thirds going to exploration and development.  And that's according to a U.S. Energy Information Administration survey. , even though oil companies say it'll cost them 60 dollars.  The going rate to buy a barrel of oil today is about $110.  That's a nice profit when your dealing with a necessity that doesn't require constant improvement to it's product or marketing to sell it.
You see, it's all politics, with a coalition of Republicans and Democrats conning people to believing tax breaks are the American thing to do.  Having the taxpayers pay more taxes so that managers of corporations can make more money sounds to me like the corporations are running this country.
Oh!  Another thing this industry does with all its cash, is buy influence in Washington. Oil and gas companies spent 40 million dollars lobbying Congress, in just the first quarter of this year, and have donated nearly $18 million directly to the political campaigns of Senators who voted against ending these tax breaks.
We need to achieve a better balance between industry and government in this case, by removing the moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and immediately begin granting environmentally sound drilling permits to not only eventually remove ourselves from the grip of foreign oil, but to increase our revenues from enhanced collections from the oil industry after the removal of these tax breaks.
We need to examine all the tax breaks and subsidies that have been passed by Congress and eliminate those that don't offer an immediate stimulation to our economy.
