Outcold_small The Yeti Film Festival started three years ago as part of UMD's Out Cold week. The Kirby Program Board thought the Yeti Film Festival would be a good way to reach the artistic students of UMD, and a way to keep students entertained and involved during the winter. Students entered films in the categories of Theatrical, 30-Second Short, Documentary/Mockumentary, Library, and Musical. During the voting days, upwards of thirty films were shown, and the students who attended rated each film. Fewer films made it to the Thursday showing, and out of those finalists, students voted for the top films of each category, as well as the top overall film. Andy Lindberg and Spencer Johnson met with Radio Gallery to discuss their films. Johnson won first place at the festival, along with another student, for the short film, "Library Security." Lindberg and Johnson joined Radio Gallery to discuss the challenges and ideas behind their film making.

Margi Preus and Jean Sramek

From WDSE | Part of the Radio Gallery series | 05:15

Radio Gallery is a show about ideas, people, and Minnesota artists. Produced in Duluth Minnesota. "Colder by the Lake" is a comedy theatre group in Duluth that has been around for over twenty years. The group began with sketch comedy, and went on to many other types of original and adapted comedies, including an original Comedy Opera. This year, the group put on another sketch comedy, "Older by the Lake," which was performed on March 11th-13th and the 18th-20th at 7:30 pm, and March 14th at 2 pm. This is a weekly 5 minute segment produced by Maija Morton for KUMD - Duluth Public Radio.

Margipreusandjeansramek_small Margi Preus and Jean Sramek were co-directors for this year's production, "Older by the Lake." Preus and Sramek also developed a majority of the script for the production. However, because it is a sketch comedy, the script is a collaboration of ideas from all of those involved. "Older by the Lake" deals with issues that many middle-aged people face, but by focusing on relationships, it represents all age groups. Sramek and Preus met with Radio Gallery to discuss the process and development of "Older by the Lake."
