" What If" Review

Have you ever happened to wonder if there are other people in this world that wish they knew the answers to the questions that puzzle everybody? If you thought you were the only one who had so many questions about our world and our everyday life and why things are the way they are, you’re not. Ellie Evans’ piece, “What If” is incredibly astonishing not only because it‘s a piece that really gets the audience to sit back and go along with Evans’ rich tone and wonder about the rhetorical questions being asked by Ellie but also because of the mood. The mood of this piece could be described as mysterious in a way in which Ellie guides the listener through a dark tunnel and then leads to the light. The way she created this piece is very interesting, it is like a puzzle with different pieces being connected together. The beginning is very captivating, the music she chose to include in the piece really enhances the overall audio. As I was hearing the piece the song at the beginning really set me off to just relax and concentrate on what was coming. The pacing flows along just perfectly. Each time she stops it gives the listener the chance to visually imagine what she is talking about.

Review

“What if” by Ellie Evans is an incredible piece. I found it interesting because of the questions she asks in those five minutes. The way she delivers her point through the questions we may or may not ask ourselves everyday is amazing. At the beginning of the piece the background music set a certain mood where you can lean back and ask yourself each of these questions. This is a piece that makes you think about everything that is going on around you, it may relate to the listener personally, or to someone they know.

Review of What If

This piece in a wonderful in so many ways. The narration is superb, though I hesitate to call it "narration" because I really feel connected to Ellie Evans as she speaks almost in dialogue with me, the listener. She skillfully weaves in pauses for reflection with rhetorical questions that manage not to sound contrived. The various music is well picked to fit the mood. I especially liked that this rather vague, poetic piece also included more personal details of Ellie's life. It allowed me to forge a unique, understanding bond over a radio feature. Lastly, if I had to make one technical suggestion, it would be that Ellie's voice comes in a little loudly over the music.
