- Summary: This week marks 50 years since the civil rights movement pushed its way onto the national political stage, at the Democratic Convention in Atlantic City. Bend resident Marion Davidson was among the young volunteers who went to Mississippi for the 1964 Freedom Summer program, to register voters, set up independent schools and force the nation to confront what was happening in the state.

Very interesting piece about a local civil rights activist right here in Central Oregon.
