A program of story readings with a nominal duration of 30 minutes (25 - 29:30). The stories come from folklore, children's stories, short stories by well known authors, and pulp science fiction.

In German and Yiddish a spieler is a performer. A singer can spiel, a trombone can spiel, and even a salesman can spiel.
The first series of Storyspieler programs come from the Indian Why stories published in 1915 and 1920 by Frank Bird Linderman. In each program Roy Trumbull narrates from 2 to 4 of those stories. There are 10 programs in that series. The stories are mainly from the folklore of the Cree, the Chippewa, and the Blackfoot tribes.
