President Kennedy and Immigration Reform

From Cesar Chavez Foundation | Part of the 50th Anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's Death series | 01:44

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States was in office form January 20, 1961 to November 22, 1963.

Jfk_image_prx_280_small President Kennedy’s term of office was from January 1961 until his assassination on November 22, 1963. He was a Navy Veteran, the second youngest president and the first Catholic president, which marked a historic event in American politics. He proposed an overhaul of the immigration law of 1921, which Congress approved and became the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. This law eliminated visa quotas that maintained the nation’s ethic profile, and effectively changed the emphasis of immigration from Europe to Latin America and Asia. Because today’s immigration policy is also in need of significant change, the Cesar Chavez Foundation and the United Farm Workers actively advocate at all levels for an immigration reform that keeps families together. May our fallen president; John F. Kennedy, rest in peace
