Father Brown strikes again with THE THREE TOOLS OF DEATH

Father Brown takes on a death of Sir Aaron Armstrong that is complicated with too many weapons and too many murderers. Father Brown travels around the world, using his deductive skills and faniliarity with human nature to solve crimes, this one takes place in England. Great performances by Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air's ensemble, led by J T Turner as Father Brown. Ample sound effects enrich the program.

Father Brown Episode 4, The Arrow of Heaven

Father Brown used his prodigious deductive powers to solve another murder in his seemly haphazard manner. This is a nicely done mystery series, well performed by the talented J T Turner and supported by the great ensemble of the Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air.

The Chimes performed by Colonial Radio Theatre

This finely done, sound rich dramatization of Charles Dickens' THE CHIMES brings us another of Dickens; morality tales, related to the New Year, rather than his more often done Christmas tale. Well worth a listen!

Tradional Family Fun @ Christmas

It isn't difficult to picture the cast of The Colonial Radio Theatre Company standing onstage in Christmas sweaters and neck scarves with stage snow falling all around them when you listen to the opening number, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," sung by Jerry Robbins and his "radio kids," Rob Cattell, Connor Doherty and Ricky MacDonald. JT Turner and Diane Capen round out the cast of this sweet homage to those classical Christmas television and radio programs of old, calling to mind Bing Crosby's and Andy Williams' annual shows. With a little classical Victoriana a few traditional religious carols, some familiar secular holiday songs, a charming shepherds' Nativity pagent, a story or two, some friendly banter, the Colonial Radio players present a warm and nostalgic little bit of traditional Christmas. All of the lovely orchestration and rich sound effects help to take us away to a simpler time, even for just a little while.

In the concluding episode of Season 1 of POWDER RIVER, Britt has to deal with a surprising betrayal that endangers both him and his son, Chad. Caught unprepared, Britt has to find a way to save himself, his son and a friend from the danger that lurked unknown for some time. All this personal tension is made all the more dramatic when the forces of nature are unleashed on the ranch and escape becomes essential for survival. This dramatic episode is well done with incredile soud effects and great musical effects to highten the emotional nature of this story. A great western audio play done in the style of the 1950's. Nostalgic and touching.

Review of POWDER RIVER Season 1. (deleted)

Another fan said that listening to episodes of POWDER RIVER was like slipping into a hot bath. For me, it's kind of like curling up under an afghan with a steaming cup of tea in my hand, or spending a little quiet time with good friends. Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air's family friendly POWDER RIVER series is comfortable, familiar, enjoyable, it's fun, it's... well, it's POWDER RIVER! It's a new walk through the old wild west with a group of regular people who are just trying to survive life in a tough environment that can present potentially life threatening situations. How those characters react helps us learn who these people really are over time. As the series unfolds, we get to know more about Brit, Chad, Millie, Doc, Sandy, Sheriff Dawes and all the regular members of the core ensemble through listening in on how they deal with the characters and events that flow through Clearmont, Wyoming . Once your hooked, when an episodes ends, it's easy to feel that little sense of loss, kind of like when your friends head out of town and you can't wait till they come back again..

Review of POWDER RIVER. Season 1. Episode 1: THE PREACHER

As soon as I hear this episode of POWDER RIVER, I was hooked! Designed to feel like the old radio westerns of the 1940's, with an ensemble cast of characters and sound effects galore, I couldn't help but remember how much fun all those westerns were, and how good it felt to have one back again. This first episode is suspenseful, as the protagonist isn't even known to us until it's almost too late. Wild west fun!

Review of THE MARVELOUS LAND OF OZ. By L. Frank Baum

Everyone knows about Dorothy and her red slippers.... very fiew people have actually READ about Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz and her subsequent adventures. The Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air HAS, and they have produced a series of audio dramas that inform the listening about L. Frank Baum's classic tales, minus the Hollywood hype, and that is a VERY GOOD THING! Loveable characters, great sound effects and musical score make this a very good family friendly listen. This production introduces classic literature to the listening public and may actually get a few people to pick up a book again! Kudos, CRT!

Review of THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW (deleted)

I've been listening to audio dramas for years, and I especially enjoy seasonal stories, so I was pleased to find Colonial Radio Theatre on the Air's version of SLEEPY HOLLOW. This adaptation of the classic tale brings to life the superstitious "outsider" schoolteacher Ichabod Crane and tells the story of his interactions with the local populace of the rural Sleepy Hollow in old Dutch New York State. I like the way the cast balances irony and humor in their performances, the ample sound effects and musical score enrich the recording and the story telling nature of the narration make this production great family listening. The musical numbers blend with the tale telling well and lighten up the mood a tad and change the pacing of the production nicely. It's going to be a regular fall event for us here!
