About Me
[Most of Shea's work on PRX is listed under the group Big Shed Audio.]
Shea Shackelford founded Big Shed Audio with Jennifer Deer and Jesse Dukes. Big Shed is an audio and media production shop specializing in documentary and feature production, training, professional services, and encouragement of creative production from other independent producers, starting with the Big Shed audio documentary podcast.
When he isn’t producing his own stories, he’s busy teaching, encouraging, or helping people and organizations to use sound and storytelling to convey their own ideas. He is an annual producer-in-residence at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke and former coordinator of youth media programs for the Latin American Youth Center in Washington, DC.
Shea is an independent audio producer who recently moved from Washington, DC to Montréal, Québec. He continues to work throughout the United States, even as he explores the Canadian audio frontier.
Shea is the creator of The Place + Memory Project, which he developed as a 2009 Public Radio Makers Quest 2.0 grantee. He won the Bronze Award at the 2010 Third Coast / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition for his co-production of the story "This can go on forever". Shea is an alum of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.
