Tanya Ott has been chasing good public radio stories for nearly two decades as a staff reporter, independent producer and now, News Director at WBHM-FM in Birmingham, Alabama.
Her stories have been heard on NPR, Marketplace, Justice Talking, Sound Money, Cultivated Gardener, PrimeTime PostScript, Savvy Traveler, Living on Earth, and many other local, regional and national programs. Her reporting has garnered dozens of state, regional and national awards including a Heart of America award, a Medical Writers' Association Award of Excellence, and a New York Festival Gold Award for Environmental Reporting.
Tanya is a member & mentor for the Association of Independents in Radio (AIR) and a trainer with the Public Radio News Directors' (PRNDI) NewsWorks program and journalism consultant for Morning Edition Grad School.
When she's not doing radio she's hanging with her husband, 3 daughters and 5 cats. They enjoy community theatre, girl scouts, gardening, soccer and wrestling (the *real* kind, not the stuff on TV).
