Like so many, I started my love affair with sound at my college radio station WCBN in Ann Arbor in 1970 (The "Is Paul Really Dead?" Weekend was a highlight.) Later, as a New Yorker, and a founding member of AIR, radio productions included A Life in New York (with NY IPS) and Breakdown and Back (with Jay Allison and Lou Giansante), The 24-Hour World (Soundprint), The Bob and Ray Public Radio Show (with Larry Josephson), Kids America (with Keith Talbot), Bittersweet Pieces (with Radio Nederlands and Ray Gallon), Selected Shorts (with Symphony Space), The Radio Stage (for WNYC, where I worked for ten years), productions for WDR (Three Peabodys, and several Armstrongs, CPB's, NFCB Golden Reels) and then, from Europe, commissions for BBC Radio 3 and 4, appearances on Studio 360, The Next Big Thing, and Radio Netherlands. Latest productions are "Yesterday and Forever" (see Helen Engelhardt on prx)and "Unquiet Graves" (with Helen as Entre Deux Amies), "Jan On Jack" for Hearing Voices and "Jan Michelle" recently aired on BBC Radio 3's "Between the Ears"
I have lived in France since 1992, where I teach Media Studies, Sound, Communications, Geopolitics and English to University and Engineering students.
Yes, call me a surrender monkey! Sweetly surrendered to the Flemish countryside, new challenges in sound, language and technology, and happy lurking as I listen in on what's going on back home and elsewhere!
I also like gardening.
