Benjamin Adair is a journalist and radio producer based in Los Angeles, Calif.
I am currently the Managing Editor for APM's Weekend America. Previously, I created the critically acclaimed show "Pacific Drift," which enjoyed a two-year run on Southern California Public Radio. Before that, I produced PRI's award-winning The Savvy Traveler and contribute to shows such as All Things Considered, Marketplace, Day to Day, Studio 360, Radio Lab and Latino USA.
I am a member of the Hearing Voices project. www.hearingvoices.com
I also consult for both national shows and local productions that are seeking to define or refine an editorial sound and/or process. Clients have included APM, WNYC and Southern California Public Radio.
I love radio that fully exploits the medium: strong narratives and ideas, interesting voices, beautiful sound. The best stories create new worlds of experience for the listener and engage all the senses - not just the ears.
We live in an increasingly complicated media environment and our productions are directly competing with television, movies, music and the rest of the internet. The best radio makes me forget about those things - forget about most all other things - and takes me to a place I don't quite ever want to leave. Makes me sad when it's all over.
