Greetings All,
Gila / Mimbres Community Radio serves Southwestern New Mexico and is located in Silver City, NM. We began our long strange trip in 2005 and finally received our construction permit in late 2010. We have just moved into a fantastic location! location! location! in the heart of historic downtown Silver City and have begun our 24/7 webcast at GMCR.org.
We are Pacifica and Radio Bilingue affiliates and have begun presenting regularly scheduled locally produced programs. Our studio will come on line in the next few weeks and live programming will follow shortly after.
We were delighted recently to have Amy Goodman and Denis Moynahan appear in a benefit fundraiser as part of the Democracy Now / The Silenced Majority Tour and have developed a Community Partners program that emphasizes cooperative relations with local non-profits. We are also members of the Silver City chapter of the NM Green Chamber of Commerce.
We continue in our fundraising efforts and project the start of FM broadcast at 10,000 watts - serving essentially the whole of Grant County's 30,000 residents - this coming spring/summer.
