KPR Facts

* Kansas Public Radio (then KANU-FM) began operations on September 15, 1952. * KPR was the first noncommercial station in the U. S. to broadcast in stereo (1961). * KPR's studios are located on the University of Kansas campus, northwest of Memorial Stadium. After 50 years in the old "mud hut", KPR staff moved into a new, state-of-the-art facility in the summer of 2003. * KPR is a charter member of National Public Radio and has carried the NPR news program All Things Considered since 1971. * KPR broadcasts 24 hours a day. The main components of its programming are classical music, NPR news, jazz and folk/bluegrass music. * KPR carries many signature public radio programs, such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and A Prairie Home Companion but the majority of programming is locally produced.
