The Lake Wylie Community Radio Project was organized in June, 2001, as a non-profit, educational organization incorporated in the State of North Carolina. Its purpose is the establishment of a low power FM radio station to serve the Lake Wylie community. On June 5, 2001, the Lake Wylie Community Radio Project filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC to operate a 100 watt FM station on 93.7 mhz. February 14, 2003, the FCC issued a construction permit for the station.

The WYLI-LP will provide a unique, community oriented radio service, offering blend of news and information of interest to the Lake Wylie community along with music and entertainment to appeal to a variety of tastes. The overall objective of the programming of this station will be to enhance the experience of living on Lake Wylie and to enhance the recreational activities of those visiting Lake Wylie.
