I've included their mandates below, to highlight their very successful efforts on a local level, but in particular to highlight the opportunity spoken word provides to engage people through a unique and very personal format:

Organization ? The CPC will plan and stage poetry series and showcases for spoken word artists in the National Capital Region (such as Capital Slam).
Collaboration ? The CPC will seek to incorporate other art forms ? such as music, visual art and dance ? into its programming to expose spoken word audiences to diverse forms of artistic expression and build linkages within the local arts community.
Diversity ? The CPC will encourage the participation of artists of all cultures, backgrounds, experiences and persuasions to participate in its programming and initiatives.
Community Involvement ? The CPC will seek to include diverse local groups (such as youth, GLBT, ethnic communities, francophones, etc.) and community-serving organizations in its work.
Advocacy ? The CPC will, on behalf of its members, speak publicly about the need for greater public and private support for the arts in Ottawa, with a particular focus on performance poetry. Hide full description
