Organic Food, Environmental, Social and Health Issues

Overview:

The Beyond Organic radio show is an unique environmental radio and multimedia program, addressing issues of organic food and farming, social and environmental sustainability.

The show offers news, interviews and research that fills a void left by public and private broadcasters. We cover timely issues and trends, with guests ranging from award-winning author Michael Pollan ('Botany of Desire') and Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman, to organic farmers and sustainable seafood specialists. Beyond Organic covers diverse-yet-interconnected issues including genetic engineering, Mad Cow Disease, dead zones, health, nutrition, Slow Food, cooking, gardening, Fair Trade and international trade policy.

Format:

Weekly, 44-minute talk / interview show, featuring 2-4 guests. Listeners emails are read on-air; however, the show does not accept telephone listener call-ins. Guests are encouraged to appear live in-studio (San Francisco), but can also join in by phone. Publicists are encouraged to review the show archives prior to pitching. Guests are chosen to represent a diversity of perspectives.

Distribution:

Live webcast on Wednesdays (10-11 am PST), and subsequently available to affiliate stations as pre-recorded. Check website for updated list of affiliates. The show reaches thousands of listeners across North America via traditional radio stations, satellite radio, webcasting and (soon) podcasting. Shorter segments, under the "Earth News" and "Icicle Minute" brands, are rebroadcast on the CBS Radio Network and Armed Forces Radio. Shorter 90-second news clips are in development. Podcasting available in Fall, 2005.
