BE PART OF THE SOLUTION!
In a time when news of war and conflict seem to fill our media, the Peace Talks Radio series tries to take back some media real estate for talk about making peace in our daily lives as well as to provide information on topics that relate to a more peaceful world locally, nationally and globally.
Suzanne Kryder, Peace Talks host says: Were operating on the theory that any kind of violence, even on a global scale or a large nation-to-nation scale, really starts within an individuals heart. It really starts with individuals not getting their needs met. We look at issues like creating justice for people but we also want to take it down to just an individual level of how people make peace within themselves, or between two people, in small groups, in neighborhoods, and families. We also look at communities where people tend to have conflict, like in the workplace or at school. We really try to address the day to day issues of how people can prevent violence.
There are 30 half-hours already produced and more on the way. A new episode will be loaded to PRX every week as long as they last. Use these as a limited series or pick and choose which ones you think will be most interesting to your listeners.
"Peace Talks Radio" connects listeners with people whose life's work is to pursue peace and nonviolent conflict resolution. The show's focus is often on day-to-day conflict scenarios. Upcoming episodes that will be posted for your use help listeners handle conflicts that arise: at home raising children; in schools with bullies; in the workplace with other employees; on the highways with road-raged drivers; in our political discourse. Other shows will spotlight citizens who place the message of peace at the core of their lives. An example is an upcoming episode that tells the story of two fathers, one whose son had shot and killed the other's son. The two dads are coming together to promote the building of a trade school to improve the prospects for youth in their community.
Other Peace Talks Radio program topics include discussions of efforts to abolish the death penalty; nuclear disarmament; solving common disputes in neighborhoods; links between the environment, poverty and peace; and the Peace Jam youth project that brings a Nobel Peace Prize laureate together with students. The program spotlighting the peacemaking legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. was a Peace Talks Radio special.
