"The Empowered Patient" (TEP) is a new health program -- feature-length for public radio stations, and each segment available in as a podcast -- that provides information to listeners to use in making their own lifestyle decisions.

Hosted by Dr. Kalpana DePasquale and produced by Warren Miller, TEP offers the insights of researchers and medical practitioners, field interviews with people in their daily lives, and discussion of the many factors that impact our lives, our health and our well-being.

"The Empowered Patient" (TEP) is a new health program -- feature-length for public radio stations, and each segment available in as a podcast -- that provides information to listeners to use in making their own lifestyle decisions. Rather than a "doctor knows best" talk format, TEP offers opinions of researchers and medical practitioners, field interviews with people in their daily lives and a discussion of the many factors that impact our lives, our health and our sense of well-being.

TEP is hosted by Dr. Kalpana DePasquale, an ENT in practice in St. Augustine, Fla. and produced by Warren Miller, a veteran reporter and contributor to NPR affiliate stations, as well as an award-winning print journalist.

The three segments of the pilot feature program include segments on running, longevity and injuries (featuring an interview with Winston Allen, the world triathlon champion in the 85-89-year-old bracket!); sunlight exposure, including tanning, Vitamin D and skin cancer; and organic food, its impact on the food industry, what the labels mean, pediatric health and pesticides, and how farmers markets increase our connection to the food we eat.

There's a lot to listen to on The Empowered Patient! Remember, your health is your own responsibility ... be empowered!
