NowSound is an hour-long contemporary classical music program for listeners who want to follow the latest streams in music as well as works of the recent past. Host Byrwec Ellison explores this vital art within the wider context of classical music history, offering listeners an intimate acquaintance with the music of our time.

Whether we survey a composer’s body of work, compare works by several writers or examine a single piece of music under the looking glass, NowSound does a deep dive into the topic. The show's illustrative musical extracts and featured performances together with descriptive analysis and informative background are intended to appeal to listeners who are historically and culturally aware and who want to stay current with today's art music.

Think of it as "old-fashioned music appreciation” meets so-called New Music.

It might be music by exciting up-and-comers like Caroline Shaw and Nico Muhly; established writers the likes of Jennifer Higdon, David Lang and Unsuk Chin; or those artists - among them, Gérard Grisey, Daniel Catán and Claude Vivier - who didn't live to see their full moment of public recognition.
