The Next Question asks provocative questions about new, emerging and disruptive technologies, their potetenial impacts on our lives and their broader impacts on the world around us.

This series focuses on the collection, storage and analysis of big data and its potential impacts on privacy.

In 2010 Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, said that “privacy is dead”. By ‘dead’ he meant that it was no longer a social norm. Social media users show they want to share their lives online. No one is forcing them to do it - they prefer to live a life in the open.

But privacy is more than consensual sharing - it is the expectation that we can control access to ourselves. The prima donna Instagramming their meal is choosing what to share with others.
