Armistice Day for Expats in Belgium
Series produced by Alison Turner
Brussels, Belgium is home to a large population of British expats, and it is also a short drive from the battlefields of the First World War. As the anniversary of Armistice Day approaches, Alison Turner invited British expats to read poetry from the war period, and asked them how they connect to the war.
In this series, reporter Alison Turner asks expats living in Brussels, Belgium, how they feel connected to the First World War, given that they are living and working so close to the battlefields and war cemeteries. Poetry from that era is still taught in many British schools, and Alison asks the expats to read some of the poetry that is significant to them.
