Description:

Living Planet: Protecting the Earth?s Biodiversity

Our lives depend on biodiversity. It is the key to providing us with food, shelter, clothing, clean air and water Everyone is being affected and especially the poor who rely most directly on nature for survival. There are more than sixteen thousand species currently listed as critically endangered, endangered, or vulnerable. The earth is facing an unprecedented environmental challenge. The pressures of human development and climate change mean that more and more species and fragile habitats are threatened with extinction.
In a special series of mini-features, Deutsche Welle?s award-winning environment program Living Planet takes a look at different aspects of our biodiversity. A team of reporters visit important habitats and conservation projects from the peat bogs of Ireland to the Wadden Sea, a tidal wetlands area that is one of the world?s most important resting places for migratory birds.

The series is a perfect way to kick of your station's focus on Earth Day. There will be more than 10 pieces in the series that will be made available individually in April with the final pieces posted in May.
