The program format used in America Abroad is diverse and compelling. Each program includes a history segment, featuring rare, archival audio that provides crucial historical context for the topic under discussion. Each program also presents an "eyewitness" segment that includes stories from senior policymakers, national leaders, or others involved in the major events of the last century. Each show also includes one or two field segments that explore the critical issues of the program on the ground with voices and stories from abroad.
Currently broadcast bi-monthly. Began distribution by PRI February, 2003.
