Two-minute audio sketches exploring the cultural impact of technology
Eleven short audio sketches explore the cultural impact of technology. Produced weekly in the last three months of 2000 for the PRI-distributed "Beyond Computers," each piece still reflects a contemporary view of how machines are ruling our lives (though "Freedom," produced just two weeks before the November 2000 elections, has an eerily portentious view of the outcome). Using humor and satire, the producer has sketched out tiny dramas: lovers living inside the machine wreak havoc for its human-user; a dream of the perfect machine bumps against the realities of everyday travails; a video pill is swallowed leaving beautiful images and a sour taste. Air all 11 as intersticials or select a handful and sprinkle generously throughout the day's programming.
