***** Informational, Personal, Thoughtful

This is a excellent feature that analyzes the issue of housing for the disabled. It starts strong by quickly drawing you into the story of Herman, who found himself stuck in a nursing home for ten years after being shot because he couldn't find another place that fit his needs due to his disability. This is a common problem for the young disabled today and this feature presents the facts of the issue without being dry. It does this by structuring it around the narrative of Herman's search for housing. It keeps your attention because you want to know what happens to him. Great use of the medium of radio!

It could have used more of Herman's voice and less of the narrator, and it seems like there is a potential for more scene sound (like entering an apartment building and reacting to finding out that it isn't accessible like it says it is). Has a good number of voices and perspectives. Narration is clear and very well matched to the emotion of the material, and the writing is also very good. If broadcast elsewhere, would need to have host intro cut and redone for station. Is also timely because legislation (the MICASSA bill) is pending in congress to address the issue of moving disabled people from nursing homes into private housing with subsidized home care. Would be complimented by additional material on MICASSA with local implications.
