Moonlight In Vermont Edition, Vol. 1 (Remastered)

From Brian Aust | Part of the WoodWarbler's JazzGrass Radio Show series | 01:57:00

Songs that sound like Moonlight....in Vermont of course, where this show airs weekly.

170708_moonrise_over_waterbury_dam_adjusted_1_small The 10th annual and most definitive Moonlight In Vermont edition of JazzGrass yet. Based loosely on the song by John Blackburn (lyrics) and Karl Suessdorf (music), this program reveals the sounds of moonlight from Vermont to the world through the lenses of bluegrass, jazz and that shimmering shapeshifting space between.

Origins of JazzGrass Vol. 2 ~ Fiddlin' Violins

From Brian Aust | Part of the WoodWarbler's JazzGrass Radio Show series | 01:55:39

Part 2 in the Origin Series explores some of the most legendary musicians ever to saw on the strings in the genres of bluegrass, jazz and the slippery sonic space between.

160207_woodwarbler_s_jazzgrass_small One of the signature instruments of bluegrass as well as the primordeal gypsy swing jazz sound, the only things separating fiddles from violins seem to be semantics and the quality of the notes played. For the second installment of The Origin Series, WoodWarbler's JazzGrass takes a tour-de-force of 26 songs that feature fiddlin' violins.  In the process, a broad swath of core JazzGrass sounds are presented in a flowing, shimmering set of some of the finest music ever created.

Jvs_ba_capewedding_small Throughout the history of this program, I've taken time out most shows to present a "Ladies' Choice" segment, usually consisting of a set of songs by female artists, occasionally indicating a particular cut.  While jazz had its singers, like other musical genres both it and bluegrass have been predominantly men from the beginning.  Recent decades have seen first a trickle, then a steady stream and now a proliferation of women playing & recording this music. This one's for all the ladies in the audience!
