Today, Gary Giddins celebrates the legacy of the great Louis Armstrong whose birthday. Born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans; Louis Armstrong is one of America's great artists. It is impossible to exaggerate his contributions to the development of jazz: both as an instrumentalist and as a singer.
