Oklahoma House Bill 1999 and Senate Bill 375 allow the horse slaughter industry to do business in Oklahoma and for horsemeat will be shipped to foreign countries for human consumption. Is that a good idea? The legislators say yes and 80 percent of the voting public say no.  So how did these bills get passed? These questions and many more are answered when Pam McKissick and her three guests give voice to "the other side" in “Pam McKissick Without Reserve: Horse Slaughter."

A third-generation Oklahoman, business leader, horse owner, rancher and veteran radio personality, Pam McKissick hosts a thought-provoking one-hour show and is joined by three of the most knowledgeable people on the topic who share their insights and first-hand experiences.

Her guests include Vickery Echoff, a U.S. journalist who has published 15 in-depth exposes on the horsemeat trade for Newsweek, The Daily Beast, Forbes.com and The Huffington Post;  Mayor Paula Bacon of Kaufman, Texas who actually had the horse slaughter industry in her town along with pollution, crime and economic decline;  and Stephanie Graham one of the more informed horse advocates on what’s behind the rush to slaughter.

The show covers important topics including horsemeat in our food supply, life in a horse slaughter town in Texas and why Oklahoma legislature is putting a humane spin on an inhumane industry.

Pam McKissick Without Reserve: The Auctioneer's Chant

Host Pam McKissick and her special guests take listeners inside the mysterious world of the Auctioneer's chant and explore the fascinating profession of Auctioneering.

Pam_mckissick_headshot_small

If you listen you can still hear the Auctioneer selling in fields and fairgrounds and front lawns, in ballrooms, cattle barns and on courthouse steps, their chant ringing out in varying cadences across the country, as they sell purebred cattle, real estate, classic autos, heavy equipment and thoroughbred horses.  The Auctioneer's chant focuses the crowd, captivates them and, in some instances, evokes memories of industries long departed, like the melodic chant of the Tobacco Auctioneer.  Very few professions capitivate people's imaginations like that of the Auctioneer.

In this two-part, mini-series of "Pam McKissick Without Reserve", McKissick takes listeners inside the mysterious world of the Auctioneer’s chant and explores the fascinating profession of Auctioneering.  A trained Auctioneer herself and the co-owner and CEO of one of the world’s most respected auction firms, Williams & Williams Auction, McKissick leverages her insider access to reveal the art, science and mastery of the chant as shared by a selection of the country’s top auctioneers.

In a world that is in a constant state of evolution and reinvention, live Auctioneering has the rare distinction of a trade that continues to play a significant role in the sale of goods for thousands of years.  Across the country, in French, German, English or Spanish, the Auctioneer moves automobiles, real estate, heavy equipment, livestock, wine, and, once, tobacco.  And, the Auctioneer's chant is America's music.

The speed, rhythm and excitement of the Auctioneer’s chant leaves its indelible mark.  But why is it so memorable?  How is the rhythm created?  How can you become an auctioneer? McKissick and her special guests provide answers to these questions and more while they each share their one-of-a-kind, well-perfected and melodic Auctioneer's chant.

The stress real estate owners feel is centered around the number in their head.  It's the number their property is "defintely" worth...what the appraisal says, the agent says, the banker says.  They forget "what our house is worth" is a virtual number untils someone pays them that amount.  Then it becomes a real number.

Also appearing on the show to discuss this topic is Carter Maxey who oversees new business development for Arvest Banks and Sheila Sanders, Vice President of Williams & Williams Worldwide Real Estate Auction.
