Raging both in America and internationally, the study-abroad trend is encouraging students all over the world to combine education and travel. The last decade has seen a 130% increase in study-abroad participation, with an estimated 262,000 American students studying in foreign countries in 2007/2008 alone! This week, we’re taking an all-inclusive look at the study-abroad experience with American students who have studied overseas, foreign students who are currently studying in America, and the advisers that make it all happen.

From Let's Travel! Radio | 10:18

Join us for this week's show as we learn about the study-abroad experience with our very own Gina Ciliberto and special guest Dr. Ronald Méndez-Clark, director of International and Study-Abroad Programs at Fordham University.

Language, music, food, dance- so many great things come together in the world of travel! An English/Music major at Fordham University, Gina Ciliberto loves learning about all of these and then passing on her findings to the fans and promoters of Let’s Travel! When she’s not connecting travel enthusiasts to the show and website, Gina enjoys writing, singing, reading, cooking, teaching, and photography. She is desperately in love with New York City, especially the Belmont section of the Bronx where she resides. Currently, she participates in the Rose Hill Society, St. Martin of Tours Catechetical program and youth group, Kappa International at Roosevelt High School, Residential Housing Association, and an American-Catholic studies program. However, she most enjoys being a member of the Anne Devenney house, which allows her to experience the Bronx and all it has to offer, from rich Latino culture to the heart of Little Italy on Arthur Ave!

A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Ronald Méndez-Clark organized Fordham’s Office of International and Study Abroad Programs (ISAP) in 2000 and has served as the ISAP Director ever since. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, and a Master's and Doctorate in Romance Languages and Literature from Princeton University. He first came to Fordham University as a Spanish instructor in 1978. Prior to his appointment as director, he served as Associate Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and as Director of the Latin American and Latino Studies Institute. He is the author of Onetti y la (In)Fidelidad a las Reglas del Juego and his article publications cover his areas of research on Latin American fiction, translation, Caribbean/Latino Studies, and, more recently, international education. He presently serves on the Arcadia College of Global Studies' National Advisory Board and on the Council on International Educational Exchange's Academic Consortium Board.
