Transcript for the Piece Audio version of A Teen About Autism
NARRATOR: Teen Attitudes.
RYAN: I have this little sister who is autistic. We didn't actually know she was autistic because most autistic children are very shy and don't talk a lot, and she talks a lot. We've been home schooling her for a while and she's been doing a lot better than she was in public school. She has a hard time concentrating on one thing at a time. I think that a normal person is no more intelligent than an autistic person, they just perceive things in a different way. Once she sets her mind on something, she is really good at it. She is actually better than I am at basketball. She has imaginary friends, but that's understandable, you know, because of her condition she doesn't have many real friends to hang out with. She perceives things differently and doesn't take them in as we do which is why she has a learning disability. Because we're trying to teach her the way we teach people normally, but since she perceives differently, then we should try to find a way to teach her so that she takes that in and understand it.
NARRATOR: Voices of our Youth.
