In Los Angeles, Vatican II inspired the progressive and well-educated Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) to evaluate their relationship with the Church, and its many dictates over life in the order. This is the foundation for former member of IHM, Catherine Mich, and her book, Papa and Me: The Perils of Patriarchy.

Mich reflects on how the Church attempted to curtail American Catholic women’s efforts at renewal and modernization and how it still falls short of the spirit of Vatican II and beyond.
