Helen Humes enjoyed a successful career that began at age 13 in 1927 and ended with her death in 1981. Known for "Million Dollar Secret" (a song that may have inspired Anna Nicole Smith...) and for "Be Baba Leba" Humes may have lost some recognition to the women she succeeded in various positions in entertainment: Billie Holiday in Count Basie's band, Lena Horne at Caf? Society, and Ella Fizgerald at Jazz At The Philharmonic. But her talent was in the same league as theirs, and her legacy of recordings is rich.
