Description:

New York City's poetry scene just got a little younger, thanks to
Urban Word, an after-school program created by New York City teachers and writers, designed to give young inner-city teens a place to get their voice heard through creative writing and spoken word poetry.
Focusing on free speech, creative expression, and a sense of
community, the program holds poetry slams for students to perform
their work in competitions held throughout the city. WFUV producer Ed
Meagher peaked in on one such event held this March at St. Mark's Church.
