A short commentary by Beth Frear of this weeks main issues in the British press that illuminate the way the war in Iraq has similar repercussions for both countries and their governments. It deals with the problem of recruiting for the armies in the face of the rising deaths and casualties, and the latest revelations about the determination to go to war with or without a UN Mandate. The "plot" involving a U2 spyplane is discussed in more detail.
The difficulties Blair has had this week in keeping his agenda together are underlined by this weeks voting fiasco. So to is his campaign to curb civil liberties.
Finally there is a discussion about a report by Nobel Laureate, Professor Stiglitz about the cost of the war to America and all other parties concerned.

Review of A View From Across The Pond
I listened with the idea of putting this piece on War News Radio which I produce. (warnewsradio.org)
But it's not really a single commentary., More a round up of everything that occurred in the past two weeks that upsets us all.
I need a shorter more focussed piece. Maybe 2 minutes. On just one or two of the developments. And I would need to know the writer's bio. Just a bit of who she is, activist? Journalist? Living where?
As to the piece itself, Lone Ranger and Tonto work well as metaphors. Silver makes no sense to me.
You are spot on in choosing the right developments to review.
Voicing: You need to do retakes when you trip. Too many are left in. And to record closer to the mic in a softer room, that is one with more furniture to pad the sound. To ringy. Sounds like a cell.
And I'd let your feelings show more in the read. Even more of the sharp tongued writing would help. We have plenty of balance and facts on our show. We want opinion.
You have automatic credibilty and draw interest coming from across the pond. Let us hear more of that. We already know about Steigllitz and other US stories. And when you tell of a recruiter in Scotland looking at his shoes etc. it's grteat, but tell us the source. Was that also the Guardian? Anyway nice work. If you happen to try one we might use (shorter, sharper, pondier) alert us at war news readio.
