In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we have a new album "Woody's Delight" from Steve Turre, who is a trombonist but also gets music out of sea shells, an idea he picked up when working with Rahsaan Roland Kirk. "Woody's Delight" is a dedication to one of Steve Turre's mentors, Woody Shaw, though there aren't any actual Shaw compositions on it. We'll also feature music from the debut album of 23-year-old Chicago jazz pianist Jim Holman, an album called "Explosion!" (and it lives up to its title). Also new jazz from bassist, singer, and songwriter Esperanza Spalding; her album "Radio Music Society" brings jazz and soul together, and we have the latest from trumpeter Jeremy Pelt brewing up a tempest for us. Plus, a song from singer-songwriter-scholar Cynthia Felton from her new album "Freedom Jazz Dance" and the magic of jazz with a direct connection to Africa, from The Kora Jazz Band.
